Standing with Our Community and Supporting Victoria’s Promise
Every year on 4 February, World Cancer Day brings people and organisations together to raise awareness of cancer and its impact. The 2026 theme, United by Unique, highlights a simple but powerful truth. Every person’s experience of cancer is different. Progress can only occur when we take time to listen, support one another and act together.
At Phillips Law, this message resonates strongly. The charity we are supporting this year is Victoria’s Promise, a local charity that provides practical and wellbeing support to people affected by cancer.
Why World Cancer Day Matters
Cancer is not only a medical condition. It affects emotional wellbeing, family life and long-term stability. As a result, support must extend beyond treatment alone. The United by Unique campaign recognises this by promoting care that reflects individual experiences rather than a single approach.
Importantly, the World Cancer Day 2025 Impact Report showed how shared stories and collective action can drive meaningful change. When people come together, they influence health systems, improve awareness and encourage compassion. In turn, this helps shape services that respond to real needs.
While this is a global campaign, its message applies just as strongly at a local level.
A Local Response: Supporting Victoria’s Promise
Victoria’s Promise was created to honour a promise made to a young woman named Victoria. That promise was that her life would continue to make a positive difference for others facing cancer. Today, the charity supports women aged between 25 and 50 who have received a cancer diagnosis. It offers tailored help from diagnosis and throughout treatment and recovery.
Crucially, the charity focuses on the whole person. It provides peer support, practical assistance and opportunities for meaningful connection. These services are designed around individual needs. As a result, Victoria’s Promise reflects the core message of United by Unique by recognising that no two journeys are the same.
As part of our 40th anniversary year, Phillips Law has committed to raising £40,000 for Victoria’s Promise during 2026. This is an ambitious target. Nevertheless, it has the potential to create lasting impact for individuals and families within our community.
Why This Matters to Us
Our support for Victoria’s Promise reflects our wider values. We believe legal practice should sit alongside strong community engagement. Over the past four decades, we have supported individuals and families during some of the most challenging periods of their lives. Through this work, we see the difference that understanding, guidance and practical support can make.
World Cancer Day reinforces the importance of action, not just awareness. By supporting a local charity that champions personalised care, we can help turn awareness into meaningful change. In doing so, we bring focus to real people and real experiences within our community.
How You Can Join In
Raising £40,000 is a collective effort. Every donation, event and conversation helps move us closer to that goal. Whether you choose to contribute financially, take part in a fundraising activity, or help raise awareness, your support genuinely matters.
We will be hosting a range of fundraising events throughout the year. As ever, the highlight will be Destination Basingstoke’s Half Marathon. With additional races including a 10k, 5k and children’s runs, there is something for everyone to take part in.
We will shortly be inviting people to join Team Phillips, where entry to the event will be free in return for fundraising in support of Victoria’s Promise. Full details on how to sign up will be shared soon. Last year, more than 100 people joined Team Phillips, and we would be delighted to welcome even more participants this year.
Please follow us on Facebook and LinkedIn for updates on the Basingstoke Half Marathon and information on how to get involved.
Although cancer affects many people, every experience remains unique. Together, we can help ensure that those affected receive support that is compassionate, personal and rooted in community care.
