Update Your Will Week 2026: Put Your Affairs in Order Before Uncertainty Decides for You.

From 2nd to 8th March 2026, we are proud to support The Association of Lifetime Lawyers during Update Your Will Week.

Unfortunately, a will is not a document to be signed and stored away. It is your safeguard against confusion and preventable distress. It ensures that your wishes are clear and legally protected.

Without one, or with one that no longer reflects your circumstances, uncertainty takes over.

Why does this matter?

Families today are complex. Relationships change. Finances evolve. New responsibilities arise.

Many people assume that their loved ones will automatically inherit or be protected. Unfortunately, the law does not operate on assumptions. If you die without a valid and up-to-date will, your estate is distributed under intestacy rules. These rules may not reflect your wishes or family structure.

That is how future chaos begins.

How does a will keep life in order?

An up-to-date will allows you to:

  • Decide who inherits your money, property and possessions
  • Appoint guardians for children under 18
  • Make arrangements for pets
  • Reduce the risk of disputes
  • Provide clarity at an already emotional time

It replaces uncertainty with structure.

When should you review your will?

We recommend reviewing your will every five years, or sooner if your circumstances change. For example:

  • Marriage or civil partnership
  • Divorce or dissolution
  • Becoming a parent or grandparent
  • Purchasing or selling property
  • Changes in financial position
  • The death of a loved one
  • Starting a business
  • You or a designated beneficiary obtains a Gender Recognition Certificate

Your will should evolve as your life does.

Take control before problems arise

At Phillips Law, our Accredited Lifetime Lawyers focus on helping individuals and families put clear, legally robust arrangements in place. We appreciate that these conversations can feel uncomfortable. However, taking action now prevents avoidable complications later.

Here is what you need to know. Updating your will is not about dwelling on the future. It is about protecting it.

If your will is out of date, or you have not yet made one, now is the time to act.

Discover how to keep your affairs in order and protect the people who matter most.
