A Will is for life – not just for Christmas

The festive period and run-up to a New Year often prompts us all to reflect on family, the year gone by, and plans for the future.

It can also be a valuable opportunity to think about estate planning and whether your Will still reflects your wishes.

A common misconception is that a Will is a “once and done” document. In reality, it should be reviewed regularly to ensure it remains fit for purpose.

As a general rule, Wills should be reviewed every five years or so, or indeed sooner if there has been a significant change in circumstances. This might include marriage or divorce, the birth of children or grandchildren, the death of a beneficiary, or a change in financial position.

Life rarely stands still, and your estate planning should evolve alongside it.

If you are unsure when your Will was last reviewed or whether it still achieves what you want it to, seeking advice can provide reassurance and clarity.

The Wills, Trusts and Probate team at Phillips Law would be pleased to assist you with a review of your Will and any estate planning queries you have in 2026 and beyond.

If you don’t yet have a Will, please reach out, and we can assist with preparing one for you.
