Probate Office Copy Fees to Rise Sharply
Probate Office Copy Fees to Rise Sharply

What is Changing?

The fee for an office copy of a grant of probate will increase from £1.50 to £16 from 17 November 2025.

Why It Matters

Executors generally need to order several office copies, as these are required by banks, life assurance companies, share registrars, Land Registry and other organisations to release assets in an Estate.

Practical Tips

  • Order only what is necessary. Some banks and registrars now accept scanned or sealed digital copies, so confirm their requirements before ordering multiple office copies.
  • Executors should always ask for an office copy to be returned to them. Once noted on the records of a bank or other financial institution, an office copy can be used again.
  • More office copies can be ordered later, for the same charge.
  • The new fee also applies to ordering historical copies of a Grant. It is important to keep copies of documents that your Executors may need access to in the future when dealing with your estate, such as a copy of the Will and Grant in the estate of your late spouse.

At Phillips Law, we regularly assist and advise Executors and Personal Representatives of an estate.
