WHAT IS GOOD DIVORCE WEEK 2020?
WHAT IS GOOD DIVORCE WEEK 2020?

26 November 2020

Monday marks the start of Good Divorce Week which will run until Friday December 4.

It is an annual campaign that aims to promote practical and constructive ways for separating parents to put the needs of their children first.

Organised by Resolution, which is made up of more than 6,500 family lawyers and other professionals, this year the campaign focusses around the benefits of early legal advice.

Resolution believes the process of separating, sorting out finances and arranging childcare should be done in a way that minimises conflict and keeps the best interests of any children involved at the heart of proceedings.

There is no silver bullet approach to divorce, as every family is different. However, by seeking early professional advice, couples have the benefit of considering a range of options and making a decision that is most suitable to them.

Hayley Eachus, who heads the Family Law team at Phillips Solicitors, who are all members of Resolution, said: “It’s very difficult for parents when they make that tough decision to separate, and often there is a significant impact on their children. That’s why Phillips are delighted to support Good Divorce Week to promote a constructive approach to this often emotionally charged situation.”

During the week, Resolution is relaunching its Code of Practice, which all members, including the Family Law team at Phillips, have signed up to. The code ensures that all legal professionals manage and reduce conflict and confrontation between separating couples and support parents and families in prioritising the interests of the children and their welfare.

You can expect all Phillips and Resolution lawyers to:

  • Listen to you, be honest with you and treat you with respect.
  • Explain all the options and give you confidence to make the right decisions.
  • Help you focus on what is important in the long-term.
  • Help you balance financial and emotional costs with what you want to achieve.
  • Work with others to find the right approach and the best solutions for you.
  • Manage stress in what can be an already stressful situation.
