PHILLIPS SUPPORT SEBASTIAN’S ACTION TRUST
PHILLIPS SUPPORT SEBASTIAN’S ACTION TRUST

17 March 2020

Phillips Solicitors incorporating Brain Chase Coles are proud to support a charity that supports families whose children are life-limited or life-threatened.

Sebastian’s Action Trust provides emotional, social and practical care together with outreach and specialist support to families in Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Surrey.

It also offers respite holidays to families from all over the UK at The Bluebells – the Trust’s unique facility in North Waltham, just outside of Basingstoke.

Sebastian’s Action Trust was established in 2004 in accordance with the last wishes of a very special little boy, Sebastian Gates, who died on Christmas Eve 2003.

In the month before he died, Sebastian launched a fundraising drive to establish a holiday home that would provide somewhere exclusively for families to spend precious time together, away from hospitals and the punishing treatment schedules that govern the lives of cancer patients and others with life-threatening conditions.

Sixteen years on, Sebastian’s Action Trust supports more than 600 families of seriously-ill children in their home, in the community and in hospitals during their stay.

Phillips Director Max Hope said: “We picked the charity after a company-wide vote with Sebastian’s Action Trust being a charity that struck a powerful chord across our team.”

“We’re all very impressed with the work of the Trust and the fantastic support and facilities that it provides, and we can’t wait to lend our support through fundraising and other activities.”

“We believe that the children and their families who are supported by the Trust benefit enormously from the respite and the essential practical and emotional support provided.”

Sebastian’s Action Trust’s CEO, Jane Gates OBE, said: “I would like to thank Phillips Solicitors for choosing us as their charity of the year.”

“We are really looking forward to working with them in the coming year on some fantastic fundraising activities that will generate awareness of our charity and also funds to enable us to continue to support families with seriously ill children.”

In addition to its spacious apartments for visiting families, The Bluebells offers a range of facilities including a hydrotherapy pool, sensory and music rooms, an arts and crafts space, plus a cinema room, a garden of reflection and wellbeing counselling suits.

Situated in extensive grounds, there is also a mini golf course, accessible play area and a remembrance garden.
